Chicago White Sox focusing on trade for Prince Fielder?

By Allan

Last week, Chicago White Sox GM Kenny Williams was believed to be pursuing Washington Nationals’ first baseman Adam Dunn.  Once that information became public, the interest in Dunn went from two teams to “a handful” of teams according to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. Cowley adds that the Nationals have been “asking for the moon” in exchange for Dunn.

Williams has no refocused his attention to another hard hitting first baseman – Milwaukee Brewers’ Prince Fielder.

Several reports have the White Sox interested in Fielder.  However, any prospective buyer must keep in mind that Fielder is represented by agent Scott Boras and after the 2011 season, he will be a free agent and he expects a deal that tops Philadelphia Phillies’ Ryan Howard’s deal of five-years for $125 million. Some expect Fielder to get as much as $200 million over eight -years.

”Kenny should know what we need, what we [don't need],” manager Ozzie Guillen said. ”I’m not the type of manager who gets involved in players, who should be here, who should not. We always talk about this club. We don’t have a meeting about anything. Every time me and Kenny have a meeting, it’s just because something stupid I did.”

”We talk, we sit in the coaches’ room and talk about it. … Right now, we’ll wait to see what happens later on. Make decisions. Like I said [last week], if Kenny thinks we need somebody, he will get it. That’s the way he is. Kenny is always very aggressive. He knows exactly what we need. I don’t worry about that, who’s coming in and who’s coming out. I just manage the club.”

”Right now, we’re fine. We’re playing the way we think we’re going to play. Hopefully, we don’t need anyone. That’s hopefully because all of a sudden something’s missing with this ballclub. Right now, we’re not missing too much.”
