Update – Chicago White Sox had scout watching Adam Dunn on Sunday

By Allan

7/19 08:57: The Washington Post (via the Chicago Sun-Times )says the White Sox had a scout at the Nationals’ game in Florida, presumably to keep an eye on left-handed hitter Dunn.

7/8 11:03: Buster Olney of ESPN says that if the Washington Nationals want to keep Adam Dunn and they could can get him for a “package somewhere in the range of $44 million to $48 million, I’d get it done. Now.” Otherewise the team may gamble and trade him now and try to re-sign him after the season.

7/7 13:58: Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports says the Nationals’ asking from the Chicago White Sox is either second baseman Gordon Beckham or right fielder Carlos Quentin.

7/7 11:33: The Adam Dunn to Chicago White Sox rumors are heating back up. According to Buster Olney of ESPN, he tweets, “White Sox GM Kenny Williams is known as perhaps the most aggressive deal-maker — he knows what he likes, and moves fast — and one rival executive says the White Sox “are all over Adam Dunn” right now. He would be perfect for what the White Sox need.”

The original rumor was first reported by Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times in late June. ”Names have been talked about by both sides,” one source close to Cowley said. ”[Williams] might want to act quickly, though.”

The problem for the White Sox is their lack of talent in the Minor Leagues. Much of their farm system was depleted in previous trades for Jake Peavy and Juan Pierre. The team however has no problem adding the payroll. If the team adds Dunn, they will only be responsible for about half of his 2010 $12 million salary.
