According to a team press release (via the Chicago Sun-Times), the Chicago Cubs have given right-handed pitcher Bob Howry his unconditional release to make room for Carlos Zambrano. Zambrano was activated from the restricted list today after four Minor League apearances.

Howry, 37, was a combined 1-3 with a 7.71 ERA with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Cubs this season. He was signed by the Cubs on May 21 after being released by the Diamondbacks on May 17.
