6/23 16:40:Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com said Baltimore Orioles’ president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail confirmed that he and owner Peter Angelos spoke with Buck Showalter for several hours today regarding the managerial position.
MacPhail said that there is no rush to name a new manager and it may take a few weeks or months.
“I think we want to get it right, whether it’s in two weeks or two months [is] probably not as important as getting the right guy,”said MacPhail who didn’t anticipate making a hire prior to the All-Star Break. “I don’t think, frankly given our place in the standings, urgency is as paramount as it might be to a team like the Marlins who are still a few game within striking distance.”
MacPhail also said that he spoke with Bobby Valentine’s agent regarding his removal from the Orioles job.
Valentine appears to be the top candidate for the vacant Florida Marlins managerial position that was left open when the Marlins fired Fredi Gonzalez this morning
