Boston Red Sox looking at Scott Downs and Kerry Wood?
BySources close to Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe say the Red Sox are looking for a possible match to add to their bullpen. The team has interest in Toronto Blue Jays’ Scott Downs, Cleveland Indians’ Kerry Wood and Baltimore Orioles’ Will Ohman.
Another option would be to source the need internally. They have recently moved Pawtucket starter Michael Bowden to the bullpen. Cafardo says that Bowden has the best makeup for a reliever – “a hard-nosed kid who pitches on adrenaline. A perfect formula for a good reliever.”
The price tag in terms of salary or prospects would be pretty high for Downs and Wood right now, so if the Sox could be successful with Bowden they can save themselves some change, otherwise, look for them to be aggressive in the next few weeks.
