Bobby Valentine takes a shot at Florida Marlins on Baseball Tonight

By Allan

The bridges have been burned between the Florida Marlins and Bobby Valentine.

“If this is a major-league process, I hope I’m never in the process again,’ Bobby Valentine said on ESPN’s Baseball Tonight, according to Joe Capozzi of The Palm Beach Post. “It’s very disturbing, confusing and it was insulting at times, but it’s over.’

At one point last week, it was all but official that Valentine was going to be the next manager of the Florida Marlins, but things fell apart over the weekend and into early this week. The Marlins eventually named interim manager Edwin Rodriguez as the team’s manager for the rest of the season.

“They didn’t do their homework. They didn’t do their due diligence on Bobby V. It looks like you got caught with your pants down a little bit,’ said former New York Mets general manager Jim Duquette.

“I think they wanted Bobby and got caught by surprise by some of the things that he wanted and decided, well, we’re not quite ready to go down this road right now,’ Duquette said.

“Whatever happened, they’re not really saying. But clearly he was the guy they wanted and it went awry. The reasons it went awry are not clear,’ Duquette said.

During the process, Valentine withdrew his name from the Baltimore Orioles’ vacant managerial position, so it’s unlikely that he’ll end up in Maryland.

It’s too bad because the Marlins have a young team, and a new stadium opening up in the near future. Having Bobby V. leading the club would add a good spark to the organization and to the fan base.
