Atlanta Braves interested in Indians Austin Kearns or Jhonny Peralta?

By Allan

Paul Hoynes of The Plain Dealer says the Atlanta Braves had a scout attending Monday night’s Cleveland Indians game in Texas. Hoynes says the Braves are reportedly looking for a right-handed hitter so two names that come to mind from Cleveland are outfielder Austin Kearns and infielder Jhonny Peralta.

Kearns and Peralta have previous been mentioned as trade candidates before the deadline.

Kearns would bring a big right-handed bat to the Braves.  Additionally, he played with the Washington Nationals from 2006-2009 so he’s familiar with the NL East pitching.

Peralta will be a free agent after this season, but he has a $7 million club option for 2011. Many teams such as the Phillies and the Twins could be seeking Peralta’s services since he would provide any contender with infield versatility.

This wasn’t the first time a scout came to watch the Indians. Hoynes says the Braves had a scout in Cleveland during the team’s last home stand.
