Peter Gammon of the MLB Network said (via Twitter), “Arizona called Friday trying to get Red Sox to take Chris Snyder.”

Snyder and the Red Sox have been mentioned in the same breath before.Last month, Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe said Snyder was on Boston’s radar.

The Red Sox may lose Victor Martinez and Jason Varitek after the 2010 season to free agency (both catchers coincidentally are on the disabled list too), so they have been interested in adding a long-term catcher. Kurt Suzuki of the Oakland Athletics has been mentioned as another catcher Boston is interested in.
