Adam Dunn will not be traded by Washington Nationals?

By Allan

According to a source to Bill Ladson of MLB.com, it is unlikely the Washington Nationals will trade first baseman Adam Dunn before the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline. Ladson says that GM Mike Rizzo doesn’t like the offers for Dunn.

“As I said in the past, Adam Dunn is a big part of this club — anchors the middle of the lineup, anchors the clubhouse,” Rizzo said. ”It would take an extraordinary deal to trade him, but we are going to keep our options open for anything that happens.

“That’s my job, to impact the ball club positively. If it’s by extending him, that’s what we will do.  But if there is something that has to be done as far as trade. We’ll have to explore those options also.”

The Chicago White Sox have had an interest in Dunn since late June, and recent discussions have had the Nationals asking for second baseman Gordon Beckham or right fielder Carlos Quentin.

There has also been interest by the New York Yankees in Dunn.
