Adam Dunn Trade Rumors: Olney speculates about trade to Yankees
Posted by: | Comments7/27 15:37: Pure speculation on the part of Buster Olney of ESPN, but he tweets, “A Yankees-Adam Dunn trade makes a whole lot of sense. The Nationals have made successful trades with the Yankees in the past (Tyler Clippard), the Yankees usually think big and strike fast, and the possibility of Dunn hitting fifth or sixth or seventh in the Yankee lineup, in the short porch of Yankee Stadium, could be very, very appealing to the NYY.”
7/27 13:29: A source close to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports says the Nats have not offered Dunn a contract extension in any form.
“They’ve never made one proposal,” the source said.
Some believe the Nats will make a last-minute offer to Dunn and then trade Dunn if he does not accept.
7/27 12:47: Joel Sherman of the New York Post says, “Tampa Bay likes Adam Dunn’s bat, but Dunn has said he does not want to be a DH and the Rays had such a miserable experience with Pat Burrell at DH against his desires that they are not after Dunn.”
7/27 12:29: Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports says that the Nats and Dunn haven’t made significant progress in agreeing to a contract extension.
The Tigers, Rangers and Yankees maintain some level of interest in Dunn.
7/27 10:03: Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports tweets, “#Nats remain more likely to trade Dunn than [Josh] Willingham, source says.”
Ed Price of AOL FanHouse tweets, “Some new teams asked about Adam Dunn within past day. Perhaps the same NL West clubs that got in on Podsednik? #Nationals #Padres #Giants” (You can see who was in on Scott Podsednik here)
7/27 09:43: ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian says that Washington Nationals are fielding more calls for first baseman Adam Dunn, and it’s looking more likely that he will be dealt. The Chicago White Sox and the Texas Rangers are known to have interest in the free-agent-to-be Dunn.
Yesterday, there was a rumored three-team trade that would have involved Dunn. The deal would send pitcher Edwin Jackson from the Diamondbacks to the Nationals. Dunn would go to the Chicago White Sox and a “bunch” of young pitchers to Arizona.
The Nationals are continuing to speak with Dunn and his agent about a contract extension, and the team has made it clear that if they cannot get him to agree to an extension then they will trade him.
Colorado Rockies designate Brad Eldred for assignment
Posted by: | CommentsAccording to Steve Foster of insidetherockies.com, Colorado has designated Brad Eldred for assignment to make room for shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. Tulowitzki has returned form the disabled list after breaking a bone in his left hand in June.
Eldred hit .250 with one home run and three RBIs since he was recalled July 7. If Eldred clears waivers, he will return to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
7/26 14:28: Jayson Stark of ESPN says that it’s likely that trade talks for Francoeur are now dead since Jason Bay is heading to the disabled list for a concussion.
7/26 16:53: Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star tweets, “#Royals are (privately) very dismissive of the rumors linking them in a trade with the #Mets.”
7/26 13:12: With the names mentioned, a source close to Jayson Stark of ESPN.com says that the Kansas City Royals have “no interest” in a trade with the Mets.
7/26 12:26: Anthony DiComo of MLB.com says that it’s doubtful that anything will come out of the talks between the Mets and Royals regarding Francoeur before Saturday’s non-waiver Trade Deadline.
DiComo said that multiple published reports claim that the Mets were interested in dealing Francoeur, who is making $5 million this season for reliever Farnsworth, who is making $4.5 million. The Mets are wary of trading Francoeur in the event that Carlos Beltran suffers a setback from his knee surgery.
7/25 17:27: Andy Martino of the New York Daily News tweets, “Mets are indeed talking with Royals about Francoeur, source says. Farnsworth seen as possible bullpen help. Talks w/ K.C. are fluid, but it doesn’t appear that Guillen to Mets is direction it’s headed. Thinking is more that if Guillen goes somewhere else, they’d be interested in Francoeur. Mets have outfielders already.”
7/25 16:58: Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated tweets, “trade of well-paid players between mets, royals makes sense. francoeur, guillen, ollie, meche, castillo in the talks.” Heyman adds, “francoeur, ollie “on block,” says source. kc trade “might happen,” says another.” Read More→

The team has since banned pie celebrations. The pies are usually made up of shaving cream on a paper plate or towel and they thrown in a teammates face, sometimes during a TV interview.
In the interview, Coghlan references Los Angeles Angels’ Kendry Moralas’ walk-off broken leg grand slam injury. Coghlan says his injury isn’t as serious as the one Morales suffered from.
“They have to make a call on whether he’s going to have surgery or avoid surgery. He’s going to be at least two or three weeks,” Rodriguez said of Coghlan.
Logan Morrison will be called up from Triple-A New Orleans on Tuesday to take Coghlan’s place on the roster.

Josh Willingham Trade Rumors: Braves and Giants pursuing outfielder
Posted by: | CommentsJon Paul Morosi of FOXSports says the Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants are pursuing Washington Nationals outfielder Josh Willingham. Morosi adds that it isn’t clear if the Nationals will move him.
The Braves are looking to add depth to their outfield. In addition to Willingham, the Braves have interest in Florida Marlins center fielder Cody Ross and Milwaukee Brewers Corey Hart. The Braves also optioned outfielder Nate McLouth earlier today.

Colorado Rockies Rumors: Quietly shopping Aaron Cook
Posted by: | CommentsJoel Sherman of the New York Post says the Colorado Rockies want to put Jhoulys Chacin back into the rotation, and so they are quietly shopping starting pitcher Aaron Cook. They are telling teams that they would either eat some dollars or take back a contract. Sherman adds,
Cook, though, is having his worst season since becoming a full-time starter in 2004 at 4-6 with a 4.78 ERA. Also, he is owed about $3 million on his $9 million contract for this season, $9.5 million next year and there is a mutual option in 2012 for $11 million or $500,000 buyout. However, if he is traded his base salary increases by $1 million in each season.
Just a couple of weeks ago, the Rockies were in buying mode, but after a four-game sweep by the Philadelphia Phillies, the team is now eight games out of first and 4 1/2 games out of the wild card. The team is starting to see so many problems spots on their offense. The Rockies have three games against the Pirates and then they open a three game series with the Cubs – all at home, so at least the schedule is to their advantage. If they can go on a win streak before the trade deadline, then they can get back to buying mode. Otherwise, expect the Rockies to sell off a few pieces.
