White Sox GM Ken Williams – “Some changes need to take place”

By Allan

“Some changes need to take place,” Chicago White Sox GM Ken Williams said. “I don’t know what, and I don’t know when, but changes need to take place. Things aren’t happening that we envisioned and when they don’t happen the way you envisioned, you have to make an adjustment or two.”

The Chicago White Sox are 25-33 and 9 1/2 games out of first place and have several players have been rumored to be on the trading block including A.J. Pierzynski, Paul Konerko, Bobby Jenks, J.J. Putz and Mark Buehrle.

“We’re not talking about tearing something down,” Williams said. “If we do something, it will still be along the lines of shuffling the deck with the expectation that we’re going to add impact guys who can help us win.”

“But other teams seem to want our players, so I have to gauge whether something comes along sooner is better off for our mix and chance to get in it, or wait and be a little patient until July, when all the information is in and people are bidding against each other for our players. So we’ll figure it out.”

Players like Pierzynski and Buehrle will be accruing enough seniority soon where they will have full no-trade rights without their consent, so that may come into play. However, if tempted to go to a contender they may waive that right and given their high salaries they could be traded well into August.
