Update – San Diego Padres Rumors: Trade Heath Bell for Indians Austin Kearns?

By Allan

6/14 11:31: PRO Rumors is not saying the Padres will make a trade for Kearns, but for those in doubt, Terry Pluto of The Plain Dealer makes his pitch. Kearns (.307, 7 HR, 31 RBI, .902 OPS) is only 30, a right-handed hitter who is a strong defender in right and left field. He’s only being paid $750,000 this season and will enter free agency after this season.

6/12 15:00: The Padres are confident that Ryan Webb could fit in the setup role if the team traded one of their “lights-out” relievers, but the team is reluctant to make such as move with the durability of right-handed pitcher Mike Adams in question.

The team would listen to offers for Heath Bell if another team would be willing to give San Diego a batter that the team can control for several years. Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports suggests (with complete speculation) that a perfect candidate would be Austin Kearns of the Cleveland Indians.
