6/5 09:12: According to the Cardinals’ official Twitter account, the team is close to signing free agent Randy Winn.

Winn was designated for assignment by the Yankees at the end of May.

Winn, 36 next week, signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Yankees in January. He was hitting .213/.300/.295 in 29 games with the Yankees in 2010.
