Update – Pirates Ronny Cedeno paints mustache on face?
By6/9 14:44: Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review says the “mustache challenge” is over.
Nearly all of the players who’d grown out their ’staches in a good-natured show of team unity shaved them off before yesterday’s game. “I walked into the clubhouse, and everybody had shaved,” said stubble-free third baseman Andy LaRoche. “I’m sad to see ‘em go.”
6/8 00:34: Infielder Bobby Crosby of the Pittsburgh Pirates started a mustache challenge for the team. Most everybody participated expect for shortstop Ronny Cedeno… until Sunday.
Cedeno applied eye black around the top and side of his upper lip before taking the field. Cedeno had trouble crowing the facial hair during the challenge.
“I came out of the trainer’s room and, I don’t know, I looked at the mirror and I went, ‘Everybody’s got a mustache,’ ” Cedeno said.
Cedeno said his mustache will only be used for that one day. Manager John Russell is the only holdout to not participate in the mustache challenge.
