Mike Lowell Trade Rumors: Could Lowell's bat replace Griffey?

By Allan

Nick Cafardo of The Boston GlobeMike Lowell says the Seattle Mariners could be a possibility for Mike Lowell now that Ken Griffey Jr. is gone. However, it’s hard to believe the Mariners would take on an expensive player when their season is all but done.

Keep in mind that Lowell is being paid $12 million this year and it’s unlikely the Mariners would invest even a part of that for the remainder of the year.

The Rangers would likely take Lowell, but “beyond that, there hasn’t been much interest.” The Angels and White Sox are possibilities with the White Sox needing a replacement for Mark Teahen but according to a team official, Lowell “Just doesn’t fit for us right now.”

As Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports said yesterday, the Angels are not interested in Lowell because they have an internal solution with Mike Napoli shifting to first base when Jeff Mathis comes off the disabled list.
