Mark Buehrle Rumors: Still a trade candidate for the St. Louis Cardinals?
ByAt the end of May Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports said White Sox left-handed pitcher Mark Buehrle could get a good candidate to help the St. Louis Cardinals pitching staff.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, when asked about a possible trade to St. Louis, Buerle expected to stay put. ”I haven’t heard any of them,” Buehrle said. ”I haven’t heard anything about me getting traded, any rumors or anything, so I don’t … this is the first I’m hearing of it.”
”Either that or it’s too early to trade and try to get anyone,” Buehrle said. ”If you’re going to trade too early, trade guys before the deadline, I guess the sooner you do that, the rumor is the less you’re going to get. So it’s either not getting blown up or it’s too early.
”I have no idea [what will happen]. I don’t really know that part of it. Obviously, I hope we play well enough to keep everyone here, but that’s part of baseball and a business side that I’m glad I have no control over besides going out there and playing. Anything else that happens is out of my control.”
The Cardinals have since signed right-handed pitcher Jeff Suppan to add to their depleted rotation, so the possibility of trading for a pitcher like Buehrle start to dwindle. However, if Brad Penny and Kyle Lohse cannot recovery from their injuries, expect trade talks for starting pitching to heat up again.
