Update-Kosuke Fukudome Rumors: Cubs need to trade outfielder

By Ryan

6/14 20:44: Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports added some Fukudome info by noting that the Nationals are one of the 15 teams on his no-trade clause.  But the big market Yankees and Red Sox are not on the list.  Both the Yankees and the Red Sox  are in need of a healthy outfielder and they have both sustained numerous injuries to their respective outfielders.

The Padres pursued Fukudome as a free agent during the Kevin Towers era have also suffered numerous injuries and currently are receiving the worst production in right field.  Their need for an outfield bat has been talked about for weeks now but for a deal to work out, the Cubs would have to include a significant amount of cash to satisfy the smaller market Padres.

6/14 11:41:John Paul Morosi of FOXSports says the Chicago Cubs need to trade outfielder Kosuke Fukudome since rookie outfielder Tyler Colvin is taking much of Fukudome’s playing time in right field. The Cubs are crowded in the outfield with Alfonso Soriano in left field and Marlon Byrd in center field.

Morosi says, “If general manager Jim Hendry trades Fukudome now, he will be selling low. Not ideal. But it wasn’t that long ago that Hendry acquired the suddenly effective Carlos Silva for Milton Bradley, in perhaps the sell-low trade of the offseason.”

Fukudome will be hard trade since he has roughly $21 million left on his contract between now and the end of next season and he also have a no-trade clause that allows him to block a deal to 15 teams. Morosi says, tt’s possible another team will want to swap another bad contract.
