Update – Florida Marlins to hire Bobby Valentine?

6/26 14:33: The Florida Marlins gave Edwin Rodriguez a formal interview in the last hour, according to Joe Capozzi of The Palm Beach Post.

6/26 02:17: Tim Kurkjian of ESPN The Magazine says all parties could not be in place for a face-to-face meeting with Valentine so the conversations will take place over the phone.

6/25 17:46: In a text message to MLB.com, Valentine said he hasn’t met face to face with Marlins officials yet and he notes the “process will take some time.”

6/25 11:11: Bobby Valentine told Joe Capozzi (via Tom D’Angelo of The Palm Beach Post) that reports suggesting that he had a tentative deal with the Marlins are “absolutely not true”. Valentine and the Marlins are continuing to work towards a deal.

6/25 06:30: Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated confirms that the Florida Marlins will be hiring Bobby Valentine as the team’s manager. Heyman says, “marlins, valentine have at least a tentative deal for him to manage. he starts by monday, when florida plays #mets in P.R.”

The Marlins also considered interim manager, Edwin Rodriguez, but owner Jeffrey Loria had been sold on Valentine for a while.

On Thursday, Tim Kurkjian of ESPN The Magazine said the Florida Marlins were expected to offer Bobby Valentine a four-year contract.

Valentine confirmed on Thursday that he had withdrawn his name from the Baltimore Orioles managerial job soon after the the Marlins position opened up. The Marlins fired manager Fredi Gonzalez on Wednesday.
