Chicago White Sox Rumors: Paul Konerko is available right now?

By Allan

Paul Konerko6/7 11:16: White Sox players know anything could happen now.

”I wouldn’t be [shocked],” Mark Buehrle said. ”You’ve got to look at how we’re playing and guys’ contracts are up. Guys are making a lot of money and not performing. That’s [general manager Ken Williams'] job, and he’s got to [make changes] if he feels like we’re going to be out of it. If it’s best to get rid of a bunch of guys, then he’s got to do it. But I don’t know when that time will be, and you’ve got to go out there and keep trying to win games.”

”It’s one of those things that if it happens, it happens,” he said. ”You can’t go up there and play thinking, ‘I’m going to get traded or there’s a chance that I’m going to get traded’ or whatever. If you’re playing like that, you’re going to be playing tight. I don’t think anybody’s worried about it. And if that day comes, you pack your bag and go and try to help that team win.”

6/7 09:54: Buster Olney of ESPN says that Chicago White Sox are “open for business, and ready to trade off parts.” One of those parts, according to Olney is first baseman Paul Konerko. He says that the perception by other teams is that Konerko is available right now and the GM Ken Williams is a deal-maker and is someone that could move quickly.

Last week Jayson Stark of ESPN said Konerko wasn’t ready to be dealt yet.

Towards the end of May, Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports suggested that the Texas Rangers, who are looking for a veteran first baseman, could be a good match for Konerko.
