Chicago Cubs Rumors: Trade Ted Lilly and Derrek Lee

By Allan

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports says that it would difficult to see the Chicago Cubs as sellers, but if they go that route, Ted Lilly would be a good trade candidate for the team.  Lilly is a potential free agent after the season and there may be some difficulty in trading him since he has no-trade protection.  The Cubs will want to move him because the team has a few candidates in the bullpen to replace Lilly in the rotation such as left-handed pitcher Tom Gorzelanny, Andrew Cashner and they have several starting candidates in Triple-A.

First baseman Derrek Lee is another potential trade candidate for the Cubs. Lee has been adament of not wanting to waive his no-trade clause, but Rosenthal says if the Cubs are out of contention and he has the chance to go to a contender, it will increase his free agent value this off-season. There have been rumors about the Angels and Cubs talking about a trade for Lee, but those rumors have been denied.
