Despite the, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times says the earlier rumor of the Chicago Cubs in talks with the Los Angeles Angels regarding Derrek Lee are unfounded and there has been very little activiety over the last week or two. Wittenmyer adds there is nothing in the works.

General manager Jim Hendry wouldn’t comment on the subject of trade talks or any speculation about the Cubs’ break points.

Wittenmyer says the Cubs could have several trade candidates should they become sellers including Ted Lilly, and Carlos Silva. However, the Cubs are not yet ready to give up on the season.

”I have a sense that we can play better. I think we’ve seen that,” said Hendry, underscoring the front- office mind-set. ”And we’ve played pretty well against the good teams when we’re clicking.
