David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution says the Atlanta Braves have called up right-handed pitcher Chris Resop from Triple-A Gwinnett. The team had a Tuesday deadline to either put him on the Major League roster, trade him or allow other teams a 72-hour window to sign him.

To make room for Resop, the Braves optioned right-hander Jesse Chavez to Gwinnett. Chavez was 0-1 with a 7.33 ERA in 18 appearances this season.

“I didn’t know what was going to happen,” Resop said. “I heard rumors I was going to be in Texas. I was going to be in Milwaukee, Arizona. I heard all kinds of different stuff. It’s hard not to think about it … but I figured I would sit down and wait for the phone call.”

Resop was 5-2 with 1.84 ERA in 13 starts for Gwinnett.
