VIDEO: Pirates Lastings Milledge thought he had a home run
ByThe fireworks guy thought he had a home run. The announcers thought he had a home run. So you can’t fault Lastings Milledge for thinking he hit his first grand slam. In reality, it turned into a two RBI double that went bad. Check it out here:
I loved it when the Pirates’ announcer said “Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, uh oh – we got a problem here.”
This is what Lastings had to say, courtesy of David Brown of Yahoo.
“I think that was the most exciting double in PNC Park history,” Milledge said sheepishly. “It was my fault, and I didn’t look at the ball. I was running hard, making sure that I had a double, and I looked up and all the fireworks were going off and I had a lapse for a second.”
Cubs broadcaster Bob Brenly did not appreicate Milledge’s efforts. He said, “Milledge thought he had a home run,” Brenly said. “[He] was Cadillackin’ around the bases with his head down… Play the game. Play baseball. I hate to see that even in the opposition.”
Luckily for the Pirates, the team won 11-1.
