VIDEO: MLB players break their glove in with a microwave, shaving cream, oven, jacuzzi?
ByAs the weather warms up and we’re starting to hit the company picnics and rec softball leagues, ESPN’s Jim Caple shares your favorite MLB player’s strategy on breaking in your new glove.
Here’s a sample of how your favorite players get a brand new glove ready for the season:
Aaron Rowand: get it wet then microwave
Felix Hernandez: microwave
Pablo Sandoval: microwave
Stephen Drew: oven at 300 degrees then baste it with shaving cream
Chone Figgins: put it in the trunk of the car during a hot Tampa day
Howie Kendrick: steps on glove, throws it against a wall and pounds on it with a bat.
Tim Lincecum: play catch with it repeatedly
Ken Griffey Jr.: sends the glove to his dad
Mark DeRosa: waits until the Rawlings rep comes by during Spring Training and gets the demo glove used by several teams so it’s already broken in.
Torii Hunter: Soak it in a hot tub with a lot of women and microwave for 30 seconds
