Video evidence of why Eric Byrnes was released by Mariners?

By Allan

Outfielder Eric Byrnes was released by the Seattle Mariners on Sunday evening. It was no surprise given his .107/.265/.179 in 28 plate appearances, but sometimes those problems could be worked out especially since Byrnes is a veteran of several Major League seasons.

However, it is possible that his failed suicide squeeze on Friday night may have been the nail in the coffin. You can see it here in slow motion:

In the 11th inning of a scoreless game, Ichiro Suzuki was on third base and if Byrnes could lay down a successful bunt, the team could win the game.  You’ll notice that Byrnes attempts to bunt, pulls the bat back, but then he realized his mistake and tried to push the bat back over the plate. His error left Suzuki a sitting duck.

Byrnes didn’t feel like talking with reporters after the game. Rather he hopped on his bicycle and pedaled out into the rain.
