It was only a few weeks ago when Alex Rodriguez stepped on Dallas Braden’s mound and said this:

“He just told me to get off his mound,” Rodriguez said. “That was a little surprising. I’d never quite heard that, especially from a guy that has a handful of wins in his career.”

Mr. Rodriguez, I’ll guarantee you that when Braden speaks now everybody will listen and those handful wins in his career mean a lot more. No more will people say, “Dallas who?”

Braden became the 19th pitcher in Major League Baseball history to throw a perfect game – 27 batters up and 27 retired. The Oakland A’s beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-0 in fron 12,228 people.  However, only one person mattered – his grandmother. After the game, Braden went up and hugged his grandmother, Peggy Lindsey, on Mother’s Day and cried in her arms – a sports’ picture that we’ll see forever.
