Toronto Blue Jay Rumors: Team scouts are watching everybody
By
According to Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe, the Toronto Blue Jays have 25 area scouts and 21 pro scouts ready to watch all possible trade candidates. The team is not expected to compete this year, and have a variety of Major League players that could fill the needs of contenders.
“I think a lot has been made of the number of scouts we have, but my feeling is we want the best scouts no matter what the numbers are,’’ said general manager Alex Anthopoulos.
Once management agrees the team is out of it, players such as Lyle Overbay, Alex Gonzalez, Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, Jose Molina, John Buck, Scott Downs, Shaun Marcum, Aaron Hill, Adam Lind, Ricky Romero and Brett Cecil may be available. Cafardo adds that Vernon Wells and his $86 million remaining on his contract could be available to a big-market team if Wells is willing to waive his no-trade clause.
