Tampa Bay Rays to relocate to Connecticut?
By
Joel Sherman of the New York Post suggests that an ideal location for the Tampa Bay Rays to relocate would be in Connecticut, somewhere in the Greenwich to New Haven area if the team cannot get a new stadium in the Tampa area soon. The team has a lease through 2027, but Sherman says it’s hard to see the franchise sticking it out until then.
While Connecticut would be ideal, it would be difficult given the territorial rights of the Yankees, Red Sox and the Mets who have fans and business partnerships in the region. Sherman reminds us that at one point there were three teams in New York and two in Boston at the same time, so “putting a team in Connecticut should not be farfetched.”
