According to Mychael Urban of CSNBayArea.com, the San Francisco Giants have signed former Tampa Bay Ray DH Pat Burrell to a Minor League contract. Burrell will join the Giant’s Triple-A affiliate in Fresno.
If Burrell joins the Giant’s 25-man roster, the Giants will owe him a little less than $300,000.
Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle first reported the Giants and Burrell discussing a Minor League contract, at the time Schulman said it was not a done deal because Burrell had other options.
Burrell was designated for assignment by the Tampa Bay Rays in mid-May and cleared waivers last week. Burrell, 33, was hitting .202/.292/.333 in 24 games with the Rays
