Royals Rumors: Hillman Fired; Replaced By Yost

By cwalker

Seth Livingstone of the USA Today is reporting that the Kansas City Royals have fired manager Trey Hillman. The announcement came minutes after the Royals defeated the Cleveland Indians giving last years Cy Young Award winner Zach Greinke his first win of the season.

“Trey Hillman is an incredible leader — a very, very special person who touched the lives of many people in the Kansas City community and throughout baseball,” general manager Dayton Moore said. “The recent struggles of our baseball team, however, require a change and we’re making a change immediately.”

Trey Hillman had led the team to a record of 55 games below 500 since taking over before the 2008 season. Ned Yost who had been working in the Royals front office will take over duties. He was previously the manager of the Milwaukee Brewers before being fired in September of 2008.
