PRO Rumors: Strasburg, John Ely and Brian McCann

By Ryan

Here are a few PRO Rumors to check out on a night that revealed the Yankees lose two more starters to injuries and the oldest man alive getting a two-hit shutout.  Ok he is only 47 and 170 days old but he is the oldest pitcher to throw a complete game.  Congrats to Jamie Moyer!

-Stephen Strasburg made his first start in Triple-A.  His final line: 6 shutout innings, 6 strikeouts, one hit and one walk.  Strasburg made it through 6 innings and only needed 65 pitches according to the Associated Press.  Not to shabby.

-What do you get after pitching the best game of your early career?  If your John Ely of the Dodgers you get demoted to Triple-A after going 7 innings and allowing only one run and retiring 16 straight at one point.  LA Times Steve Dilbeck doesn’t like the move.  The move was made as a roster spot was needed for Jeff Weaver who was returning from the DL.  Ely is the only starting pitcher since last Saturday to allow less than four runs (including tonight).

-David O’ Brien of the Atlanta Constitution-Journal is reporting that Braves Brian McCann is having vision problems again and will start wearing glasses.  “It’s beyond frustrating,” said McCann, who played in glasses for the first time in 2009, then underwent a second round of Lasik eye surgery in a two-year span in October in hopes of alleviating the problem.
