PRO Rumors: Chipper, Garret Anderson and Frank Catalanotto
ByHere are your Tuesday night PRO Rumors:
-Chipper Jones has put the retirement talks to rest for the time being according to David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Jones has two years left after this season on his contract that will pay him $28mm in the next two seasons. He is currently hitting .230 with 25 walks. Here is what Jones had to say about retirement: “I’m good,” Jones said. “I feel like I’m doing my job. There hasn’t been a point where I got in bed and couldn’t sleep because I’m worried about what’s going on.”
-Despite Garret Anderson’s early season struggles 3 for 19 as the Dodgers primary left handed pinch hitter, the Dodgers have every intention of giving him time to adapt to his new role. Said Torre: “We’re trying to get him as many at-bats to make it easier on him. I see a timing thing. Is he the same player he was at one time? No. But he comes out of the dugout with a couple men on base and he’ll scare the heck out of me.” Tonight Garret went 1 for 1 with a single. Info from Ken Gurnick of MLB.com was used in this article.
- The Mets designated Frank Catalanotto for assignment tweets Adam Rubin of ESPNNEWYORK.com. This move was expected as Catalanotto was hitting an ice cold .167. To take Catalanottos’s roster spot, the Mets called up Chris Carter. Carter has only gotten his feet wet in the bigs (just 26 big league plate appearances) but was hitting well at Triple A Buffalo with a .339 average.
