Philadelphia Phillies Rumors: Looking for bullpen help?

By Allan

Phillies LogoSetup man Ryan Madson will be out at least two months after having pins surgically inserted into his broken big tow. The Phillies now need to assess their bullpen situation.

According to David Murphy of the Philadelphia Daily News, he suggests the best move for the team is to wait and see especially since closer Brad Lidge has just been activated from the disabled list and Jose Contreras is taking Madson’s spot as the setup man.

“Obviously, we are always looking to improve our club. It doesn’t stop us or necessarily change the way we go about it,” general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. “We have to see how guys react, how guys pitch. We need to be pitching better. It’s pretty simple.”

Madson broke his toe when he kicked a chair in San Francisco last week following a blown save.

The most likely trade partners for the Phillies would be the Blue Jays. Scott Downs‘ and Jason Frasor’s names have come up over the last month as trade candidates for teams looking for bullpen help. However, the ball will be in the Blue Jays’ court at this point in the season, and they’ll want a lot in return for either Downs or Frasor.
