Mauer to DL? Twins call up Wilson Ramos
By
According to Twins manager Ron Gardenhire on 1500 ESPN Radio, Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer could be out for a period of time with a bruised left heel. The team recalled catcher Wilson Ramos from Triple-A Rochester to take care of the catching duties. Ramos will make his Major League debut on Sunday.
“Joe is really sore,” manager Ron Gardenhire said before Sunday’s game. “We’re going to rest him until it is right … We don’t want to risk things. If I play him, it will never heal. I have to protect Joe. He said it really hurt just to put his cleats on.”
Mauer hit his heel on Friday night when he awkardly stepped on first base in his attempt to beat out an infield single.
