John Smoltz Retirement Rumors: “I’m very content with the way things ended…"

Yes, we’re beating a dead horse, but until he says the “R” word then it isn’t official. This is what the future Hall of Famer John Smoltz said courtesy of Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.
“I’m OK with that. I know a lot of people speculated I’d do a Pedro Martinez thing and pitch in August or whatever, but I don’t see it happening.
I’m very content with the way things ended, if that’s the case. The only thing I would have changed is that I would have done things more on my terms here in Boston. That’s the only small part of this that didn’t end the way I wanted it to.
But that’s OK. I had a long career and did a lot of things I wanted to do in this game.’’
I don’t expect him to send in his retirement papers to the league office until the end of the season. Every athlete always wants to keep the door open even if it’s just a crack.
