Javier Vazquez trade rumors: Could the Yankees make a trade with Mets?

By Allan

John Harper of the New York PostJavier Vazquez thinks it may be wise for Mets GM Omar Minaya to call Yankeess GM Brian Cashman to find out the availability of pitcher Javier Vazquez.

Vazquez has been struggling in his second tour in the Bronx. He’s 1-3 with a 9.78 ERA in 5 starts this year. Harper thinks that if Vasquez returns to the National League, he could succeed and possibly become the Cy Young contender he was last year.

There are several problems, including his $11.5 million salary, and Cashman’s personal stake. He traded Melky Cabrera this off-season for Vazquez and he does not want to wave the white flag yet.

Minaya has always coveted Vazquez. He originally traded him when he was the Expos’ GM and attempted to acquire him when Vazquez was with the White Sox.

The Yankees are likely going to skip Vazquez’s spot in the rotation this Friday, so it will give the team over a week to think about fixing the pitcher or making him somebody else’s problem.
