According to Carrie Muskat of MLB.com, the Chicago Cubs have signed right-handed pitcher Bob Howry. Howry will join the team in Texas on Friday when they open a three-game Interleague series against the Texas Rangers.
To make room on the roster for Howry, the Cubs optioned Justin Berg to Iowa. To make room on the 40-man roster, David Patton was designated for assignment.
Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune said on May 19 that the Cubs were interested in the pitcher. He added later that the team was close to signing him. Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times earlier today he expectedHowry to join the team in Texas.
Howry, 36, was 1-0 with a 10.67 ERA in 14 games with the Diamondbacks this season.
