Buster Posey Rumors: Is it time to call up rookie catcher?

By Allan

Buster Posey5/10 02:50: According to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News the Giants officials are not convinced that Posey is ready to catch in the Major Leagues yet.

“Let me dispel all that, all right?” GM Brian Sabean said. “When we think Posey’s ready, just like when we thought (Tim) Lincecum was ready, and this starts from ownership, he’ll be in the big leagues.”

5/8 15:03: Bengie Molina left today’s game against the New York Mets due to a tight left hamstring. Backup Eli Whiteside replaced Molina behind the plate.

In the event that Molina goes to the disabled list, it is possible that Giants catching phenom Buster Posey gets called up. Andrew Baggerly of the San Jose Mercury News says that service time will not factor into the decision to bring up the rookie.

It’s been widely speculated that the Giants have been waiting until at least June to call Posey up so that he can be under team control for an addition year. Teams wait as long as possible so that players do not accumulate service time. The more service time that a player has the earlier they can go into salary arbitration and also become a free agent sooner.

Posey, 23, is currently hitting .340/.430/.515 with 3 home runs in 27 games with Triple-A Fresno.
