Texas Rangers logoKen Rosenthal of FOXSports says that the Rangers may be looking for a veteran first baseman to a be stop gap until Justin Smoak or Chris Davis establish themselves as the future first baseman of the franchise.

Rosenthal suggests that the White Sox Paul Konerko or the Indian’s Russell Branyan could be candidates to be that stop gap. Konerko may be too expensive for the Rangers with Branyan being the cheaper choice.  However, in either case, the team will have to answer to higher powers as they deal with their current bankruptcy.

Arizona Diamondbacks LogoKen Rosenthal of FOXSports says that the Arizona Diamondbacks have internally discussed trading their ace, Dan Haren or their number two pitcher, Edwin Jackson.

Rosenthal notes that the combined salary of both pitchers would jump from $12.8 million to about $20.5 million in 2011 – a salary too high for the Diamondbacks to afford.

Corey HartAccording to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Milwaukee Brewer’s have drawn interest for outfielder Corey Hart. Rosenthal says the Giants, Padres and Athletics could be candidates for the outfielder.

In return for Hart, the Brewers would want starting pitching. Rosenthal says the Giants are unlikely to trade any starting pitcher and their outfield is getting crowded.

As for the Padres and A’s, Rosenthal says both teams want to improve their overall health and get a better gauge on their actual chances before they make any external moves.

One thing to note is that Hart will be under team control through the 2011 season, so that may be plus side for a cost conscious team that is built to make a run this year and next year.
