Buster Olney of ESPN says that the New York Yankees have claimed right-handed hitting outfielder Chad Huffman on waivers from the Padres. He will be sent to the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate.

Huffman was designated for assignment on Sunday by the Padres to make room for veteran Matt Stairs to be added to the 40-man roster.

Huffman, 24, was a Triple-A All Star in 2009 and received multiple awards throughout his professional career.
