Here are your Tuesday morning PRO Rumors:
- Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post says that Nationals’ manager Jim Riggleman has a “virtual one-year contract.” What does that mean? Riggleman is operating on a two-year contract (2010-2011) with a team option for 2012. He will make $600,000 this season, and the Nationals could buy him out for $100,000 in 2011. If things go bad, they could suck up the $700,000 and be done with it.
- The Pioneer Press that the Twins have not given up on trading for San Diego Padres closer Heath Bell. The Press says that if Jon Rauch falters, look for Matt Guerrier to be next in line. If he fails, then look for the team to aggressively pursue Bell.
- PRO Rumors believed that Hank Blalock could be a fit with St. Louis early last week, but according to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals were not tempted to bring in players released as teams set their rosters over the weekend such as Blalock.
- Home run king Barry Bonds was seen in Las Vegas over the weekend looking like he’s lost 30-40 pounds. He was seen at N9NE Steakhouse at the Palms and at XS nightclub at Encore with a girlfriend. (Norm Clarke, Las Vegas Review-Journal)
