ByHere are your Sunday morning pancakes, sausage and orange juice PRO Rumors. Yum… yum… yum!
- Andy Martino of the New York Daily news says that the Mets plan to place pitcher Sean Green on the 15 day disabled list. They will call up Raul Valdes. Green beat Valdes last week for the team’s final bullpen spot.
- Cincinnati Reds right-handed pitcher Mike Leake will make his first Major League start according to the USA Today. You may recall that Leake is coming straight from college directly to the Major Leagues without pitching one game in the Minors. He’ll be the 21st player since the draft was instituted to play in the Majors without playing a single game in the Minors first.
- Washington Nationals number one draft pick Stephen Strasburg will make his Minor League debut on Sunday against the Altoona Curve (an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates). More than 60 press credentials were handed out. (USA Today)
- Jim Armstrong of the Denver Post says that left-handed reliever Joe Beimel will join the Rockies bullpen “in a matter of days.”
- Giants number five pitcher Todd Wellemeyer gave up four walks in the team’s first loss of the season on Saturday night. He gave up six walks in his last exhibition outing on Sunday. PRO Rumors gives Wellemeyer two more starts before the Giants call up Madison Bumgarner.
- The Mets have no intention to promote prospect Ike Davis yet. Davis is hitting .400 with Triple-A Buffalo. “As an organization, you have somewhat of a plan with what you feel is the right baseball decision, for not only the team, but also the individual,” manager Jerry Manuel said. “Sometimes, those individuals can change your mind in the decisions that you make. . . . When you put a plan together, you’ve gotta kind of ride it out a little bit.”(Dan Martin, New York Post)
- Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Daily Republic says that the Diamondbacks aren’t sure on the severity of catcher Miguel Montero’s right knee. Montero injured his knee while running out a grounder. The Associated Press says he was trying to avoid Zach Duke’s tag when he landed awkwardly just before reaching the bag.
