PRO Rumors: J.D. Durbin, Pedro Martinez, Dontrelle Willis, Rich Harden, Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks, Chris Britton
ByHere are your Saturday morning PRO Rumors:
- Japanese team SoftBank will be working out J.D. Durbin and Michael Olmstead on April 18th. Durbin, last pitched in the Big Leagues in 2007 with Arizona and Philadelphia. He has a career 6-6 record with a 6.19 ERA in 23 games (11 starts). Olmstead pitched in the Met’s Minor League system in 2007 and 2008. (Sanspo via NPB Tracker)
- ESPN Insider jokingly suggests that the Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski could be on the phone lines calling Pedro Martinez if Dontrelle Willis struggles early this season.
- After Rich Harden’s wild outing on Wednesday (to be fair he only gave up 1 hit and 1 earned run in 3 2/3 innings, but 5 walks), ESPN Insider questions the right-hander’s delievery. His fastball was in the 89-92 MPH range, but his wild delivery could be the cause of his poor command.
- Prince Fielder is high on the Brewer’s re-signing list, but second baseman Rickie Weeks isn’t too far down. He is under team control through 2011 before reaching free agency. “If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t,” Weeks said. “You don’t want to leave too much on the table, but then there’s security.” (Adam McCalvy and Jordan Schelling, MLB.com)
- The Independent Lincoln Saltdogs signed right-handed pitcher Chris Britton according to a team press release. Britton has pitched for the Orioles and New York Yankees between 2006 and 2008.
