PRO Rumors: Astros DL, Braden Looper, Pedro Martinez, Hechavarria, Zach Duke, Jayson Werth and Giants misspellings
ByHappy Thursday! Hope you haven’t given up on your team for the season yet. We’re only a few days in. Don’t stalk your General Manager just yet. Let’s see what we have for this morning:
- Andrew Baggerly of the San Jose Mercury says that Houston Astros’ reliever Sammy Gervacio left Wednesday’s game with a shoulder injury and was placed on the disabled list.
- Tracy Ringolsby of InsideTheRockies says the pitcher Braden Looper could fit the Rockies need in a versatile, veteran pitcher. The Dodgers were interested in Looper in early March, but a deal was not signed.
- Jack Zduriencik, GM of the Mariners, says that the team has had “NO DISCUSSIONS” regarding Pedro Martinez. (Jim Bowden, FOXSports)
- Blue Jays new shortstop, Adeinis Hechavarria just had his visa approved and should be travelling to the US to take a physical. Hechavarria signed a four-year, $10 million deal with the Blue Jays in mid-March.
- Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette thinks that Zach Duke of the Pirates would be the most likely of trade candidates between him, Paul Maholm and Ryan Doumit since he has not been approached for a contract extension and he’s the closest among the three to free agency.
- Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated that the Phillies would most likely trade Raul Ibanez in order to make a serious run at keeping Jayson Werth.
- This on is off topic, but the Associated Press noticed that San Francisco Giant’s outfielder Eugenio Velez was wearing a jersey with the city’s name misspelled – “San Francicso”. We’ll send this one to our friends at Uni Watch. (see the picture below)
