Prince Fielder contract rumors: Talks ongoing

By Allan

Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel quoted Brewers owner Mark Attanasio saying that talks between the team and slugger Prince Fielder are “ongoing”.

It is unknown weather a formal offer has bee made to Fielder.

“I’m not saying we have or haven’t made one,” said GM Doug Melvin.

Haudricourt says that rumors have pegged the deal between five and six years at $20 million per year.

“Discussions are ongoing. Most importantly, I think Prince is relaxed. I saw him in the clubhouse this morning. What we don’t want is for this to be a distraction to him. One of the reasons we’re not going to give day-to-day or weekly reports on this is we don’t want it to distract Prince. We don’t think it’s a distraction now,” Attansio said.

Fielder is under contract through 2011. The 25-year-old first baseman has hit 160 career home runs, drove in 453 RBIs and has a lifetime batting average of .284. You can see Fielder’s contract history and statistics here.
