Pedro Martinez Rumors: LInked to Mariners, Twins and Dodgers
ByAccording to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, free agent pitcher Pedro Martinez has bee linked to the Mariners, Twins and Dodgers in the recent days. Cafardo notes that Martinez harbors “bad feelings toward the Dodgers”, the team he came up with and traded him to the Expos.
Yesterday, Mike Silverman of the Boston Globe mentioned that Martinez will begin a throwing program this week with an intent to sign a mid-season deal, similar to what he did with Philadelphia in 2009. The Phillies could be a destination.
“I’m in good shape, real good – it doesn’t take me that long to get ready,’’ said Martinez. “Last year I wanted to come back and prove to myself that I was healthy. I didn’t want to go down sore or with the excuse that my dad had died and I couldn’t pitch. When I cleared my mind, I proved I could pitch.’’
Martinez, 38, was 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA in 9 games with the Phillies in 2009. You can see Martinez’s contract history and statistics here.
