Orioles DFA Michael Aubrey and release Chad Moeller

In a busy day for the Baltimore Orioles, the team released catcher Chad Moellers and designated first baseman Michael Aubrey for assignment.

Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun says the Orioles granted Moeller his request for a released and thus making him a free agent. Moeller was beat out by by Craig Tatum for the backup catcher position.

Moeller, 35, was a popular figure in the Orioles’ clubhouse in 2009 when he hit .258 with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs in 30 games for the team. You can see Moeller’s contract details and statistics here.

In another move according to Peter Schmuck of The Baltimore Sun, the Orioles designated first baseman Michael Aubrey to make room on the roster for recently acquired Julio Lugo.  Aubrey, 28 later this month, is a lifetime .259/.310/.444 hitter.
