According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Oakland Athletics have designed OF/DH Jack Cust for assignment. If he clears waivers, Cust could go to the A’s Minor Leagues if he is interested, otherwise he will become a free agent.
In January, Cust signed a one-year $2.65 million deal to return to the Oakland Athletics. With incentives, Cust could have made $3 million.
Cust earned $2.8 million in 2009 with the A’s while hitting 25 home runs, driving in 70 runs and hitting .240 over 149 games. You can see Cust’s contract history and statistics here.
