LaVelle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune says that the Minnesota Twins have named pitcher Jon Rauch as the team’s closer.

The 31-year-old right-handed pitcher has big shoes to fill. He’ll be taking over the position that Joe Nathan has dominated over the  past few years.

The Twins were expected to go with a closer-by-committee by using Matt Guerrier, Jon Rauch, Jesse Crain and Jose Mijares.

Rauch has 26 career saves. He had 17 saves in 2008 while going 4-2 with a 4.98 ERA in 48 appearances (41 games finished).
