Rangers GM Jon Daniels told Jim Bowden of FOX Sports on XM Radio that the waiver claim of Ryan Garko eliminated the Texas Rangers’ interest in Red Sox infielder Mike Lowell.

As recently as this week, the trade talks between the Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers had accelerated, but this was all prior to the Garko waiver claim. Over the past few days, Rangers’ scouts have been watching Lowell.

Lowell was originally going to be traded to the Texas Rangers this winter, but it was called off after doctors discovered the ligament tear in his thumb.   Part of the deal with the Rangers was that the Red Sox were going to pick up $9 million of the $12 million salary.
